How To: Find Your Chill

Whether we like it or not, we all have those days when we reach into our pockets and realize our chill is nowhere to be found. Side effects include crankiness, extreme shade, and side-eyes that could cripple a grown man. It's an experience some of us know all too well, and as a proud owner of no chill, I'm here to say that this madness must come to an end. Luckily for you, your faves at #119 have banded together to cultivate a few do's and don'ts to regain your chill and take control of your bad days. Let's get it:
  • DO: Create A Sad Day Playlist
  • Don't sleep on the power of a mood-infused playlist. There is nothing like a power mash-up of James Vincent McMorrow tunes and the tear jerking stylings of Lianne La Havas. A good pity-party to some moody music can really calm your frustrations and remind you that if Paul George came back from 2014 and Britney survived '07, you can't make it through almost anything.
  • Give This A Try: My ultimate sad + chill playlist. Cry responsibly.

  • DO NOT: Eat Your Feelings
  • Yes, you've had a rough day and I'm sure your snack drawer is looking right, but it will not solve the issues you've got going on. Snacking in moderation is and always will be fine, but clearing your pantry won't rid you of your woes.
  • Instead: If you must snack (as one does), try picking up an apple and some KIND granola. I know I sound like your grandma, but trust me, you'll be thanking yourself in the long run when you didn't inhale a pint of chunky monkey (speaking from second hand experience, of course).

  • DO: Yoga (but seriously, do yoga)
  • Yoga is magical. There is nothing quite like it that will get me going in the morning or relive me of stress after a long day. Just about everyone you know swears by it and attributes their new found chill to the beauty that is yoga. Try a few classes with a buddy after work and you'll reap the benefits of a happy mind and body.

  • DO NOT: Throw Shade
  • When sad, it is known that we often cast solar eclipse kinds of shade to innocent civilians. As adults, we have to spend the majority of our days around a lot people and we have to learn to deal with that even on our worst days.
  • Instead: Create happiness mile-marks for every day and notice the difference. After you've finished your 8 hour shift from hell, go home and try that new recipe, listen to your favorite album on repeat, or my personal favorite, shop online. Take the time to think about what you have to look forward to, and stop the shade.

  • DO:  Live In The Moment
  • A big source of all stress is the time we spend worrying about future events that may never happen. Living in an imaginary future, however easy it may be, can really mess up your chances of soaking in the positive vibes of the present time. Enjoy where you are even when it isn't where you want to be, something greater is always on the horizon.
In conclusion, we really hope these do's and don'ts will help you find your chill in your own way. Protect your mind and body from the damage stress and anger can cause and make a change for the better because remember, having no chill ain't cute. :)
