Next on Netflix: Mixology
Looking for your next Netflix show to binge on but not sure what to watch? Mixology might be your answer. It's not a 10 season long commitment, because I'm sorry who has time for that? Goodbye, Grey's Anatomy. But with only one season and 25 minute long episodes, it can be watched in one night (which I have done and don't regret). And with its funny banter and relatable characters, it is worth the watch.
The Plot: Mixology is centered around 10 characters and their relationships and interactions with each other one night in a bar. You watch them flirt, deal with personal struggles, and try to find the person they are going to take home at the end of the night. Over the 13 episodes, the characters get paired up with each other and you learn about their back story and why they are the way they are. The narrator explains why or why not they would work out. With 10 main characters, its easy to relate to at least one. The show hits on stereotypes we make about each other, the dating struggle, and friendships.
The People: The characters have a range in ethnicities which is nice to finally see in a show.
- Ron: The random white British guy (so girls can swoon when he talks)
- Dominic: A half Mexican bartender (The ethnic stud every girl thirsts and fights over)
- Jessica: The generic blonde (thank god she doesn't have stick straight hair)
- Cal: The token black friend in a friend group of white guys (you will fall in love with Cal)
- Maya: The Asian halfie (half Filipino, some Hawaiians think she is an islander, one of my favorite scenes)
- Tom: Your generic tall white guy (such a baby though)
- Kacey: The bubbly white girl you all know
- Bruce: The ginger (gotta represent the gingers out there)
- Liv: The Indian halfie (she's the girl you want to give a hug to)
- Fabbienne: The annoying friend (who you aren't really friends with...)
Mixology shows how hard it is to find that someone. But it also shows why we work out with one person and not another. Which this quotes sums up perfectly: "This is exactly why falling in love is so goddamn hard."
