Worth The Hype?

Modern day media is known for shoving people, products, and perceptions down our throats with very few actually being worth a second of our precious time. That's why we here at #119 dedicate our site to serving you, our loyal readers, pure realness about who's hot and who's not. In our first installment of #WorthTheHype, we detail 3 talented young artist who are generating a considerable amount of buzz as of late and firmly decide which 2 out of the 3 can back the hype with raw talent. Let's dive in:

Kehlani

Why? Reinventing the JoJo's of the world with a touch of Oakland, Kehlani won me over when she dropped her first EP on soundcloud a while back. With clean, soulful, and pop-infused vocals, she easily shares her message and captures you in her relatable lyrics. If you follow her on social media, this r&b princess is nothing but positive and encourages self-love and self-acceptance on a regular basis. At the end of the day, talent doesn't always capture hearts, but her kind and carefree demeanor draws you in leaving you wanting more. (side note: still pretty pissed I missed her in Boston #neverforget)

Niykee Heaton

Why? Allow me to explain. While Niykee is a talented girl who can carry a tune a play a guitar, the central focus of her hype is very rarely her musical abilities. Rather, Googling her name pulls up a plethora of skin-bearing pics, which I for one do not have a problem with, but hype should be dealt to whomever holds exceptional talent. Her body should compliment her talent, rather than prevail over it. She is a gorgeous girl with a low-key T.Swift vocal vibe, but to say she's the "next big thing" might be a stretch.

  Nick Jonas

Why? He's a goddamn Jonas Brother, that's why. Nick has been talented since day one but since his recent evolution to pop/r&b prince, he's really got me feeling some type of way. The boy bulked up, worked on his vocals, and was very clearly influenced by the movement back to the beauty that is r&b and soul. His latest album was filled with hits and features from the likes of bb Tinashe and Mike Posner as well as him being featured on a track with Sage the Gemini (I see u Nick). I cannot wait to go see him in September. I have a strong feeling 13 year old me will be paying us a visit that night. JoBro's for life, get with it or get lost.
